Gettin' back on track and camp notebooks!

Well Girls' Camp and Youth Conference took over my life for the past couple of months so I am going to try and get back on track with this blog now! We had a blast @ girls camp this year and I have a couple of crafts that I did to share with you but for today I am just going to post one and hopefully get the other up tomorrow! The girls are encouraged to write in a journal everyday and I thought it would be a lot easier if they all had journals to write in so I dressed up some composition notebooks with scrapbook paper and their names and added some ribbon so they could tie it shut...it was pretty easy but they turned out super cute and the girls seemed to really like them!

Easy Peasy Birthday Present...and cheap too!

One of the little girl in my Sunbeam class is turning 4 and she LOVES Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars, and it is seemingly impossible to find lightning mcqueen items for a little girl!!! So here is what I came up with...I figured she could take it to church or grandmas or in the car...it is not too big!!
Materials
Iron & Ironing Board
Scrap Fabric (just big enough to cut your letters mine was aprox 3" x 5')
Heat N Bond (could also use wonder under)
Tote Bag
Aplique
Die Cutting Machine

Step 1
Following directions on package apply Heat n bond to one side of your fabric...if you are using a orint apply to the wrong side
Step 2
Find desired letter size and cut out your letters with your cricut. I did 2 1/2", my tote bag is not that big
Step 3
Iron on your letters to the front of your tote bag...do not over iron the letters can get too goopy and will slide!

Step 4
Following the directions on the package apply your aplique to the bag

Viola! What a quick and easy project! Now I said it was cheap so I will break it down
Tote Bag $1 (it came in a 4 pack on clearance for $3.97)
Heat N Bond...I used about $0.35 worth
Scrap Fabric FREE from a friend
Aplique $3.99...Most expensive piece
Grand Total (drum roll please)
$5.34!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

Cards and a Paper Flower Tutorial

Supplies for Paper flowers

2" scallop circle punch
paper- this is a great scrap buster
pen (or something similar)
ink and dauber (optional)
Punch out your scalloped circles for this card I did 3...2 with one side of the patterned paper and 1 with the back of the paper for contrast

If desired ink your edges of your soon to be flowers before you start cutting (who doesnt love an inked edge?)

Now you are going to make small cuts (do NOT go all the way to the center or your petals will fall off) between every 2nd scallop *my puch has an odd number of scallops so on my last set of 3 scallops I just have a set of 2 and one all by itself...excuse the nailpolish please

Okay this next part might be hard to explain but I will try my best...place your flower right side down on a soft surface...I used my couch, you could use a piece of foam or something similar. with the end of your pen make circular motions on each petal...you can press hard just dont go to fast and tear your petals..once you have done each petal you should have a little dome shape
Disclaimer...if you do this on your couch I suggest you learn from my mistakes and put a paper towel in between your flower and your couch if you are inking the edges...luckily I have a dark couch!

After you have your little dome shape turn it right side up and using your pen press in the middle so your petals pop up. you can them embelish your flowers with whatever you like, I choose buttons

Then you can add them to your card...here is my finished card that I made with these flowers

here are some other cards I made with this type of paper flower...

Library Bags

My niece's love going to their local library! My sister-in-law likes to keep all the library books in the plastic bag the library gives them so that no books get mixed up and it is easy to return them, well I started making Christmas presents (you heard me right...Christmas) and I made each of my niece's a tote for the library. I only have a picture of Sarah's...it was late and it is hard to remember to take pictures when you are all wrapped up in your cricut!! Iam thinking of adding flowers or something?? If I do I will add new pics! This is a very simple craft all you need is...
Canvas totes
Cricut (or another die cutting machine)
Fabric Scraps
Heat n Bond
Iron

Step 1
cut your fabric into the length of your cricut mat (mine is 6 x 12)
Step 2
Iron on your Heat n Bond to the wrong side of your fabric...very easy just follow the directions on the package
Step 3
place your fabric on the cricut mat and cut out your letters...when I do fabric I slow down my speed by one notch and I make the blade go deeper by one or two notches...I do not have a special fabric blade and I do not have a special fabric mat...it doesnt make a difference!!
Step 4
Remove your letters from your mat and Iron on to your bag!!
Step 5
Take the kiddos to the library!!

Kira's 4th of July Skirt

Last year the old Lakewood Joann's closed and while this was very sad, they had great deals, I pretty much just picked out anything I thought I would ever use...this inclued patterns, fabric, notions, etc. I got a lot of 4th of july fabric (I do believe that it is my favorite holiday) and this year I finally did something with it!! I made a 4th of july skirt for Kira because Jessie was saying that her girls didnt have anything to wear on the 4th! Well that just wasnt acceptible!! So here id my very first attempt @ sewing a skirt without a pattern!!
